Dear Manderson students and alumni,
It is with great sorrow that we share with you the passing of Dr. Jim Cashman.
Dr. Cashman, Professor of Management, had been a faculty member at
our College since 1975; and was one of our most outstanding management
professors and admired teachers.
Most importantly....he loved his students and his profession. We know many of you count him as a mentor and friend.
We are all deeply saddened by this loss.
The service for Dr. Cashman will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic
Church on Thursday morning at 11 AM. His wake will be on Wednesday
evening from 6-8 PM at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel.

Comments from some of the people who will miss him:
I
was saddened to hear the news of Dr. Cashman’s passing. He was a great
professor and I often think back to the things he taught us about
change management. I will be keeping his family and the University
family in my prayers. - Jo Dee (MBA, Class of 1999) I ran into Dr. Cashman at BHM book store a year after
graduating. He was as gracious, caring
and encouraging in that conversation as he was during my time with him in
class. He was a pro and exemplified all
that comes with that description. His
legacy lies with us, lets carry it forward.
He will be dearly missed. - Lou Barnes (EMBA, Class of 2003)
Truly a GREAT, My life is not the same because of Dr

you and his family. Lou Bassett, (Class of 1998)
I am so saddened to hear about Dr.
Cashman. He was my favorite professor and mentor. I learned so many
"real world" applications from him that I continue to leverage in my
current position.
He will be missed. Lance Robinson,
(Class of 1995)

He seemed young, even though he
taught over 35 years at UA. He was very kind. He will be missed! -
Troy Carmichael, T-EMBA 2010.
This truly is sad news, as Dr. Cashman was indeed close to us all, even if we
"only" met him for one class, he definitely left a mark on
me. Please send my deepest condolence to Dr. Cashman's friends, family,
and students. - Roberto Carmona, T-EMBA 2011
This is very sad. Dr Cashman was a great man and mentor to all of us. My

Michelle Wooten, T-EMBA 2012
Sorry to hear this. I had Dr. Cashman as an undergrad. I heard an
interview with him on NPR several months ago. - Russ Elrod, H-EMBA 2013
I am saddened by the loss of Dr. Cashman. He was such a good friend
of mine while I was studying there at the University of Alabama. I
hoped to visit him this Christmas. We have lost such a tremendous part
of our program. Thank you for the emails. Sincerely, - Michael Pimentel (Class of 2011)
I am so sad to lose Jim. He was my favorite professor in the MBA
program and has been a true friend and mentor to me over the last 6
years. I routinely emailed and called him for questions and advice -
probably 8 or 10 times per year. He told me awhile back that his health
was not what it used to be, but it was almost a passing comment that he
kind of laughed off, so, while it concerned me, it wasn't something
that raised a major red flag. I honestly do not know what to say. I
feel like I have lost a mentor, a professor, and, most importantly, a
friend. - Jake Philips (Class of 2005)
Thank you for the notification. Dr. Cashman stands out in my memory
as a devoted, committed teacher and I appreciate the opportunity to
honor him. - Aleta Marquest Hunt (Class of 1984)

STEM Path to
MBA Offers Top Students Shorter Degree Path
Forty-six of the country's
brightest students are registered at The University of Alabama this fall for
a course of study that will allow them to combine their strengths in science,
technology, engineering or math with their interests in business and complete
their undergraduate studies and earn a master's degree in business
administration in five years.
"The future economic success
of the United States depends in large measure on our ability to excel in
technology-oriented businesses," said Dr. Rob Morgan, executive director
for Innovation Initiatives in UA's Culverhouse College of Commerce and
Business Administration.
"Science, technology,
engineering and mathematic disciplines drive our innovation and
competitiveness," Morgan said. "In a knowledge-based economy such
as ours, those areas are where new ideas are being generated and new
companies and industries are being formed. But, the people generating those
ideas and forming those new companies have a much greater chance for success
when they add a business component to their education, and that is where our
STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) path to the MBA comes in." Read more....
